1936年9月中，开哥已到南京兵工署百水桥研究所任职。知我未考取大学，就嘱我去南京入百水桥研究所当一名练习生。

Knowing that I had not been admitted to the university, Kai asked me to go to Nanjing to join the Baishuiqiao Institute as a trainee.

From 1925 to 1928, I studied in the private school of my brother-in-law Gu Huanqing for more than three years. When I was ten (1925) in the second half of the year, my parents sent me to my third uncle’s house in Juqianjie, Changzhou. I joined Changzhou Wuyang Primary School with my second uncle’s grandson Yuan Zhenhuan (now retired in Suzhou City).

從1925年9月至1928年6月，我在顧奐清姊夫的私塾中共讀了三年。十歲（1925年）下半年父母送我到常州城中局前街三舅家中，與二舅父的外孫袁震寰（現退休居住蘇州城中）相伴入武陽小學。

我於1916年9月27日（陰曆）出生在江蘇武進茅堰村，姊妹兄弟五人，有大姊，二姊，開哥，我，和昌弟。五歲前身體不大好，常要生些病，由舅公來治好。因此為我尋了一位施姓寄娘，有了寄娘就有所寄託牢靠了。
